Digitisation of Parish RegistersCategory: Local The project covers the digitisation of parish registers from the diocese Linz. Up to now
- about 900 microfilms of duplicates of the parish registers from 1819-1940
- original parish registers (kept in the parishes) from the beginnings to 1820 (almost 2 millions)
- original parish registers of the Protestant parishes
were processed.
Aims of the project:
- saving of the currentlly available parish registers:
- relief of the parishes from requests and visits of the researchers
- easier access to the registers – at present access exists only in the digital reading room, access via internet is planned.
At present we work on the consistent indexing with metadata. The informations can be offered only within the archive because of the data volume (currently only until 100 years before the current year).
In cooperation with the diocese archives of St. Pölten and Passau we try to find a way to provide the informations in the internet.
